Succession, Beef and The Bear dominate TV’s Emmys as Elton John joins the EGOT club

At a ceremony delayed by the Hollywood strikes, which meant there’d have been no-one to write the awards show and no-one to collect the awards, America’s most prestigious TV awards have been handed out in Los Angeles.

Succession has dominated the drama categories, with Beef sweeping up many of the “limited series” prizes, as The Bear continued its success among the comedy awards.

Kieran Culkin beat Succession co-stars Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong to be named the Best Actor in a Drama Series

Succession’s Kieran Culkin beat off competition from two of his co-stars to take the Emmy for best actor in a drama, with Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen being named the best actress in a drama and best supporting actor respectively. The final series of the show also picked up the Best Drama Series award. The Emmy for best supporting actress in a drama went to Jennifer Coolidge, for The White Lotus.

Jeremy Allen White won the best comedy actor award for The Bear. His co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ayo Edebiri won the honours for best supporting comedy acting. The best comedy actress went to Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson.

Beef was named the best limited series, with its stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong winning the corresponding acting prizes.

Sir Elton John’s Farwell From Dodger Stadium was named the best live variety special, giving the legendary singer his first Emmy award, adding him to the exclusive list of stars branded EGOTs – anyone who’s won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, recognising achievements across the board, for TV, music, film and stage.

Surviving case members of a number of classic shows including The Sopranos, Ally McBeal and Cheers reunited on stage to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the awards.
