The BFI has announced that this year’s London Film Festival will end with the European Premiere of the Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion.
Rian Johnson’s follow-up to his 2019 whodunnit will close the 12 day event in Leicester Square in central London on Sunday 16th October. The director will be there, alongside cast members, including Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr and Kate Hudson.
A number of cinemas across the UK will be staging simultaneous screenings.
In Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Daniel Craig’s detective travels to Greece to find the killer from among a new cast of suspects.
Johnson – who received an Oscar nomination for writing the first film – said it was an honour to be closing this year’s London Film Festival. “A proper whodunnit really does belong in London, so it feels a bit like coming home!” he enthused.
The BFI’s festival director Tricia Tuttle said, “Rian Johnson strikes gold again with the help of the year’s hottest ensemble cast. Like its predecessor, Glass Onion is entertaining and culturally literate in equal measure, making some hilarious, razor sharp observations about the world we live in.”
The BFI has previously announced that the festival will open on 5th October with the World premiere of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, starring Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch, Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough and Alisha Weir.
