Peaky Blinders has beaten Line of Duty and The Crown to be named the Best Drama Series at the TV BAFTAs in its fourth season.
Sean Bean was named the Best Actor for Broken, while the Best Actress BAFTA went to Molly Windsor for Three Girls, which was named the Best Mini-Series.
Murder in Successful won the Best Comedy Entertainment Programme prize, while the Best Scripted Comedy went to This Country, whose star Daisy May Cooper was named the Best Female Performer in a Comedy. The Best Male Performer in a Comedy was Toby Jones, for the Detectorists.
The Best Supporting Actor was Brian F O’Byrne for ITV’s Little Boy Blue, while Vanessa Kirby was named the Best Supporting Actress for her role as Princess Margaret in the Netflix drama The Crown.
Ant & Dec beat themselves to win the Best Entertainment Programme for Britain’s Got Talent, but only Declan Donnelly turned up to collect the award, after much publicised alcohol problems forced Ant McPartlin to withdraw from his presentation duties. The pair weren’t nominated for the Best Entertainment Performance though; that went to Graham Norton.
Love Island won the Best Reality BAFTA, Casualty was named the best soap, The Handmaid’s Tale picked up the award for the best International Programme and in a battle between Sky News and ITN, Sky took the Best News Coverage award for its reports on the Rohingya Crisis.
The only TV BAFTA winner chosen by viewers was the Must See TV Moment, which went to Blue Planet II for the scene showing a grieving mother pilot whale.
The recently retired sports commentator John Motson was given a special award and the former BBC foreign news correspondent Kate Adie was honoured with a BAFTA Fellowship.
