The papal drama Conclave – starring Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rosselini – is leading the field for next month’s BAFTA Film Awards, with 12 nominations, including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and a Best Director.
The Spanish-language musical about a Mexican drug-lord who changes gender, Emilia Pérez, has 11 nominations, including for Karla Sofía Gascón, the first trans actress to be up for an acting BAFTA.

The Brutalist – about a Hungarian holocaust survivor who builds a career as an architect in the US after the War – has 9 nominations, after emerging as the Oscar front-runner at the recent Golden Globes awards.
The Cannes Palme d’Or winner Anora, Dune: Part Two, the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, the musical Wicked, the vampire horror Nosferatu, the Irish language Kneecap and The body horror The Substance have all received multiple nominations.
Demi Moore – who recently won her first Golden Globe for starring in The Substance – picked up a BAFTA nomination, but there was nothing for Daniel Craig or Kate Winslet, who were both nominated at the Globes. And despite having a separate category – with ten nominees – for the Outstanding British Film of the year, one of the most uplifting British releases of 2024, the Robbie Williams biopic, Better Man, was nominated only for special effects; the singer is portrayed throughout as a chimpanzee.
The BAFTAs are one of the many film awards that are seen as an indicator of how Oscars could be distributed a month later; there is a large overlap in the voting bodies, but the BAFTAs do tend to favour British talent, despite having a number of categories reserved for homegrown films.
The awards will be handed out on 16th February to winners selected by BAFTA members from the following full list of nominees:
