Hollywood’s biggest actors have given their top award of the year to the period vampire film Sinners. The Best Ensemble Cast prize is the Screen Actors Guild’s equivalent of the Oscar for Best Picture.
The voters gave their rebranded Actor for best actor to the Sinners star Michael B Jordan – giving him a boost in the Oscars race, as so many of the same people vote for both awards. The Actor for best actress went to Jessie Buckley for her role as Shakespeare’s wife in Hamnet.
Sean Penn kept up his Awards Season momentum with the best supporting actor prize for playing a white supremacist lawman in One Battle After Another, while the best supporting actress honour went to Amy Madigan for Weapons.
In the TV awards, the British teenager Owen Cooper repeated his Emmy’s and Golden Globes success, being named best actor in a limited series for Adolescence, with The Pitt taking most of the drama series awards, while The Studio picked up the bulk of the comedy series prizes. The Studio’s creator Seth Rogen won the Actor for best actor, while the late Catherine O’Hara was posthumously named the best actress in a TV comedy.
Here is the full list of winners of the first Actor Awards – rebranded from the SAG Awards, or Screen Actors Guild Awards.
