The fifteen year old star of the Netflix miniseries Adolescence, Owen Cooper, has become the youngest male winner of a primetime Emmy Award, as he was named the best supporting actor in a limited series at a lavish ceremony in Los Angeles last night. Accepting his trophy, for his first TV appearance, the teenager from Warrington told a theatre full of some of the biggest names in showbusiness, “I think tonight proves if you listen, and you focus and you step out your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. Who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible. I was nothing about three years ago, I’m here now.”

His was one of 6 prizes for the four-part drama – bringing the total to 8, when the craft Emmys are included. It swept its category, also winning best director, best writer, best supporting actress for Erin Doherty and best leading actor for Stephen Graham – as well as being named the best limited series.
The prize for Outstanding Drama Series went to the new Pittsburgh-set medical series The Pitt, whose stars Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa were also honoured. Lead actress in a drama went to Britt Lower for Severance, with her co-star Tramell Tillman being named the best supporting actor in a drama.
