The London Film Critics Circle have shared more than half of their awards between Todd Field’s classical music drama Tár and Martin McDonagh’s darkly comic nihilistic bromance The Banshees of Inisherin.
Tár was their Film of the Year, Todd Field was named the Director of the Year and its star Cate Blanchett won their Actress of the Year award.
The British or Irish film of the year prize went to The Banshees of Inisherin – an Anglo-Irish co-production. Its director Martin McDonagh was named the Screenwriter of the Year, while the film picked up all of the remaining major acting prizes; Colin Farrell won the Actor of the Year award, while Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon were named the supporting actor and supporting actress of the year.
In the more parochial awards, Bill Nighy was named the British or Irish actor of the year, while Florence Pugh won the award for the British or Irish actress of the year. Aftersun‘s Frankie Corio was named the Young British or Irish performer of the year, while her director Charlotte Wells won the Breakthrough British or Irish film-maker award.
The Foreign Language prize was shared between South Korea’s Decision to Leave and the Irish film, The Quiet Girl, while the documentary prize went to Laura Poitras’ Venice Golden Lion-winning All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.
Guillermo Del Toro won the technical achievement award for his Pinocchio animation, while Michelle Yeoh – Oscar nominated for Everything Everywhere All At Once – was given the Dilys Powell award for excellence in film.
